Foldable (removable) in two parts, the Concept2 rower can be easily stored in your home.
Concept2, a rower without programmed obsolescence The Concept2 rower is designed for last more than 10 years in a professional environment ional (fitness clubs, etc.) and more than 15 years in your home. The materials used are of high quality: - the monorail is made of aluminum and can support up to 135 kg - the running track is made of stainless steel - the chain is made of metal (and not of rope as on certain entry-level models) - the body of the rower is made of steel - the wheel is made of steel and plastic - the footrest is made of plastic Versions The Concept2 Model D Rower is available in 2 colors: light gray and black (particularly popular with Crossfit enthusiasts). The Concept2 Model D Rower with PM5 display The backlit display allows the Bluetooth connection for closer monitoring of your sessions. Please note that the PM5 monitor supports Bluetooth Smart (or Low Energy), which is a technology different from "classic" Bluetooth. There are also several games available to distract you (and make training less strenuous ). The machine records your sessions and shows you the figures (average training data: distance ...).
Possibility to use a USB key as storage medium, replacing the internal memory. Compatible with ANT + HR ™ (Suunto ™, Garmin ™) and Bluetooth® Smart (Polar ™ H7, WearLink +,…) heart rate monitors. The old belts (Polar H1 and T31) and the relay Polar receiver can no longer be used with the PM5.
Items supplied with the Model D Rower: 1 PM5 monitor (electrically autonomous: the energy of the wheel feeds the screen while you row) and its user manual and instructions for assembly, as well as 2 LR20 batteries - type D.
If you are used to gyms, you are sure to know this brand. I had the opportunity to test the rowers from two different halls for several months, and the rowers offered were similar to the one ci (not to say identical), which is normal since this "beast" has been designed to withstand intensive use.
Concept2 is the benchmark for rowing machines, and the Model D is not is no exception. Its price may seem high but we quickly understand why upon receipt since Concept 2 did not skimp on packaging and protection. The rower was received in a large reinforced cardboard box with handles facilitating the transport (particularly practical if you live in an apartment with floors for example), and weighing 31Kg in total (packaging included). Note that it is possible to transport the box alone.
As soon as you unpack it you notice that the whole looks very solid and of good quality, the finish of the object is particularly neat. The matte black is impeccable. Some stickers on the beam were peeled off but that's just a detail.
Assembly
The Concept2 rower can be assembled in the blink of an eye and without outside help. Its assembly instructions are well made and allow it to be assembled without any difficulty (10 minutes will be sufficient). Once all the parts are assembled, there is no doubt, the design is solid.
Bulky? When mounted in use mode, the rower is very long: you will need at least 2 meters in length to place it. Do not buy this type of equipment if you do not have the space to install it and be able to practice in good conditions.
Comfort of use
While many of you know the brand from having used it in the gym, few know the "entry-level model". Don't panic, the sensations are exactly the same as on the heavier and bulky model found in gyms.
When it comes to comfort, let's be clear, this rower is a tool suitable for intensive use, the accent is no It's not about comfort but efficiency and durability. If you are new to rowing, you may experience sore hands, find the seat uncomfortable, etc. Otherwise it's a pleasure to work with.
The only small negative point, and if there is any, might be the coating of the handle. Indeed, the plastic pulling bar, although it is surmounted by a kind of silicone is also a little rigid, in a few sessions I find myself with rather painful horns on my hands. It is strongly recommended to use gloves to avoid blisters.
You have to find your marks and understand the movement that will be optimal for you. Once understood, you can go wild without fear of pain or genes.
Regarding the on-board computer and its PM5 LCD screen, they are also very well designed, and provide very detailed and recorded statistics for each user via a usb key with its progress stored on it. It's very intuitive and it's easy to understand how it works. On the other hand, I find the PM5's user manual a bit succinct and even insufficient. You have to go to the Concept 2 website to understand all its functionalities and the displays in the different menus. It is also compatible with a wide range of heart rate monitors (see the manufacturer's website). For our test we paired it with the polar H7, everything works perfectly.
Regarding noise, this rower is in the standard. The wheel makes a fan noise when you pull the rope (resistance), but nothing too bad.
The only main flaw I end up finding with this rower is the cleaning before, during and after the rail on which the hard plastic rollers stick the surrounding dust.
Efficiency
If you are looking for a complete device, you will not find better than the rower. With sensations close to the real and its air resistance, this model D will allow you a cardio-pulmonary work and muscular reinforcement variable at will. With an adapted diet the exercise gives results quickly, even at a rate of 20 to 30 minute sessions. You will notice a rapid muscular impact on the shoulders and trapezius, visible changes on the arms (biceps) , forearm and vastus lateralis (quadriceps).
Coupled with strength training exercises at home (body weight) you can maintain optimal shape without the constraints of the gym.
With its air resistance and progressive adjustment, this Model D is suitable for people of different levels and allows flexible and constant progression.
Storage
The rower can be disassembled in two parts and allows a minimal space (it occupies little space when disassembled, less than 1m²). But although it is very easy to separate and fold up for vertical storage, the rower is still a bulky object that will not be easy to integrate / hide in a living room. Its weight, however, allows it to be moved very quickly by rolling it on its front casters.
Durability
Designed to withstand the intensive use of clubs. fitness, the Concept2 Rower is a solid investment both at home and at the club. During our test, we used it 5 days a week with sessions of 30-45 minutes, and this device breathes quality and robustness When we position ourselves on it, we feel that we will have fun ... for a long time.
The reliability and will be re-evaluated in some time, but given the reliability of its machines in the gym, we have no doubts about its evolution over time.

BOTTOM LINE
This "market leader" rower keeps its promises: quality item, robust, easy to assemble, fluid. The software provided is in tune: simple and effective. In addition the electronics are very powerful and the connectivity with your mobile devices perfect. If you look at the characteristics of this article, it is because you know its capacities and technicalities and indeed everything responds perfectly to what is indicated .
In short, the quality of the rowers of this brand is well established, professionals use it and it is not for nothing. We can therefore say that there is the Concept2 rower and all the others. For those who are used to using this brand indoors, you will find the same sensations or even better, the rower being new.
This is a rather expensive item. But you should know that it is above all an ergonometer. sold under the denomination of "rower", intended for sportsmen practicing the activity on the water. If you plan to buy a rower, and if you intend to use it frequently, invest for the long term. I would strongly advise you to save a little longer to afford this model, rather than buying lower-end devices, certainly cheaper, but which will have a shorter lifespan…
A balance sheet very positive therefore, since this rower fully meets our expectations. It is an almost pro rower that, you will understand, we recommend with closed eyes.
