DESCRIPTION
Kettler rowers are known to be sturdy devices. Made in Germany from high-quality components, the Kettler Coach M Rower is no exception to the rule. With dimensions similar to the popular Coach E, this rower is designed for regular home training, but unlike this denier, it is tight in terms of programming and uses manual resistance control. It also has a different frame finish (chrome instead of steel coating).
The Coach M rower has a silent magnetic resistance system. It has resistance options for beginners through more powerful rowers. The resistance adjustment knob indicates levels from 1 to 10, but the increment is gradual.
Unlike the more expensive E-trainer, the Kettler Coach M Rower does not have exercise programs. predefined workouts. It has a monitor displaying the time, energy consumed, number of strokes of the oar, frequency and pulse rate (a wireless chest strap and receiver are included.). In addition, the rowers Kettler are unique in that they provide extra support when exercising. The Kettler M trainer is supplied with a quick release panel and a footrest. This equipment allowed for 16 different additional exercises.
The Kettler Coach M is medium in size for a rowing machine. It measures 203 cm L x 53 cm W x 66 cm H. To save space in a room, it can easily be tilted using the casters attached to the frame to be positioned vertically.
We know it sounds a bit cliché, but this German designed and built rower is about as precise and functional as the reputation demands. Quite understated in appearance, it does not stand out from the crowd on the design aspect. Of course, taste is a personal matter, but no member of the team was impressed by its appearance and the finding seems to be a consensus on the web.
But, you don't buy not a work of art, you are buying a rower and the majority of those who have used it have been impressed with its smooth operation and very quiet resistance system.
We tried two rowers from Kettler before and found them to be of good quality. They were about half the price of this one and both were hydraulic machines - see Kadett and Favorit. But the Coach M is very different from these.
Assembly
Assembly was simple and took about 30 minutes. The perfectly tailored working position with well-designed footplates and a thick padded seat that provides the necessary support. The movement is smooth and the glide is pleasant and smooth thanks to the guided rollers on the rails.
Comfort of use
The design is quite comfortable. The feet resting correctly on the footrests ensuring a natural pivoting movement. The Coach M allows your upper limbs to use a full range of motion. Its seat has comfortable padding and glides smoothly along a chrome rail.
Weight Limit: The 130kg weight limit will be sufficient for most users.
Resistance
The magnetic resistance is probably one of the quietest and smoothest we've tried (you can easily listen to music or a podcast while using it). The Coach M has 10 resistance levels that can be selected by turning a dial located under the console. We were slightly surprised because so-called magnetic rowers usually perform this function digitally with a button. It's not a huge problem, but it can seem archaic on a high-tech device like this. Also, if you are powerful or looking to workout at maximum intensity, you may find the resistance a little low.
The console / display < br /> The first impression on the screen is that it looks a bit loaded. We would have preferred a simplified display. It does indeed display calories, distance, paddles and time, plus your heart rate at the same time (not to our liking, but some people will love the large LCD display with its graphical representations). A scan function allows you to keep your favorite field most visible. Data is unfortunately shown in English and German.
A pleasant surprise (not so surprising if you look at the price) is that the Coach M comes with a wireless T34 chest strap that transmits your heart rate to a receiver built into the console. Your heart rate is displayed on the screen and can be used for cardio training programs.
On the rear version, note that the console is battery operated and does not require any external power source , which facilitates its use. Check before purchase
Storage
When you have finished your workouts, the M trainer tilts easily and can be moved on its wheels and stored vertically out of the way, which is not negligible if you have limited space.
Bonus exercises
The Kettler Coach M comes with two easy-to-attach plates to the front and back of the rower (a backrest and a foot plate) so you can use the handle for additional exercises such as bicep curls. They allow you to perform 16 additional exercises, making rowing a mini bench. Some may find this useful, but it is more of a gadget than a real extra functionality.
< br /> Strength / Durability
And finally, the main asset of the Kettler brand is its manufacturing quality and its generous warranty. The M trainer comes with a lifetime warranty on the frame and all other parts are covered for three years, which is rare these days.
Low maintenance: The M trainer seat slides with sealed ball bearings. These help to make the machine easy to maintain. No lubrication is required.
POINTS FORTS
Comfort of use
Quiet
It is made in Germany - which means good build quality
It comes with a Polar HRM wireless transmitter
Padded seat
Good warranty period
All data accessible on screen
Low maintenance
Vertical storage
Movements facilitated by the castors
Frame is made of chromed steel with lifetime warranty
POINTS FAIBLES
A little too sober design
In our opinion, it's too expensive
Resistance too low for Max training
Knob to change resistance - unusual for a magnetic model
The accessories for the bonus exercises are a gadget
Data is shown in English or German only
Must be used with a power cord (on old version)
CONCLUSION
There is no doubt that the Kettler Coach M is a good machine. It has all the benefits of a magnetic resistance rower in that it is quiet and smooth.
Plus, the Kettler Coach M rower is built for longevity. It's very simple in terms of programming, but it supports 17 exercises in total. This is particularly useful content for people who will actually use these functions. For other buyers, a different rower with built-in programming might prove to be a better choice.
The Coach M is therefore a good rower designed for regular home training. At this price, however, we regret that some features have not been integrated, and it is these shortcomings that it could suffer from if we compare it to the competition.
